COO Who
Codes

Justin White

I didn't set out to be a "technical COO." I co-founded a startup with a 3rd party backend system and a couple developers. But startups are cash-strapped, developers didn't stick around, and someone needed to own the technology.

So I taught myself to code. I built the front-end sites, the back office reporting suite, the KPI dashboards—while simultaneously running operations. For years, I was shipping code and scaling the business at the same time.

That company grew to $20M in revenue. I eventually brought in dedicated developers when capacity became the constraint—but by then, I understood the systems deeply enough to manage them effectively and bring in fresh ideas.

That's the difference between a COO who "understands technology" and a COO who ships it.
